When we were in Spain, we noticed all the castles were built on hills, undoubtedly for defensive reasons, so I guess all castles in Europe will be, similarly, on hilltops. (My not-very-brilliant observation brought to mind by Julie who says she is going to France.)

Wat kon men vroeger toch prachtige bouwwerken bouwen.
Ongelooflijk dat dit mogelijk is op de top van een berg of heuvel. Wat zal dat veel sjouwwerk hebben gegeven.

Volgens mij heeft Duitsland nog heel veel van die prachtige kastelen. Ieder land heeft zijn eigen specifieke bouwwerken. De kastelen in Groot Brittannië zijn vaak niet meer dan ruines, maar toch heel indrukwekkend.

Ooo lovely. I know these castles are in Germany and that you are from the Nederlands. But please forgive me for saying that in 3 weeks I will be in France and hope that the castles there are every bit as gorgeous as these ones you post of today.
